When scheduling recurring tasks, the default is to not add to hotlist if the task can’t be scheduled. I’d love to change that to be added to hotlist as default.
(And a small UX-comment, having a checkbox for a negation doesn’t seem ideal).
Once again, thanks for a great app! 🙂1 week, 6 days ago SethParticipant
Could you help me understand why you would prefer to change that to be added to holist as default?
There are two scenarios when a recurring task is added to the hotlist: 1) you’ve missed the session. 2) You don’t have the bandwidth for a future session. In the case of the latter, did you know that SkedPal won’t give up and will keep trying upon each ‘Update Schedule’ to fit the session in? In other words, the session remains on the radar and it’s not forgotten. In addition, as long as the session is not scheduled, it will appear as an all-day event on the calendar.
Usually, recurring tasks are like hit or miss. In other words, you either do the session, or you miss it. It won’t make sense to re-schedule a missed session. There are of course many examples where the missed session should be rescheduled in the future but these cases are not as common.
At any rate, this is our hypothesis based on which the default is set. Our goal is to help people minimize hotlist. It’ll be overwhelming to have a long list of items in the hotlist. And, over time, your mind will tend to go numb to the list. So, we really want to keep the absolutely necessary items to be added to the hotlist for extra attention and action.
ps. Your point on UX is spot on. Thanks for letting us know.1 week, 5 days ago ryqiemParticipant
I’m impressed by the level of thought that went into this – thanks for letting me pick your brain 😉
The rationale makes perfect sense.
The issue I was encountering was that I have essential recurring tasks that weren’t being scheduled, and I wanted to be notified so that I could change my workload appropriately.
However, that’s more of an issue with the prioritisation-algorithm than what goes on the hotlist. It appears that you have two ways of scheduling daily recurring tasks:
1) Weekly and select all days
2) Daily and select all days
The wording is exactly the same, but it appears that when I select “daily”, the events are scheduled with higher urgency and aren’t trumped out by “time map: any time & by: this week” events. I suggest you remove either but keep the behaviour from 2).
Please let me know if I there’s any need for clarification. SkedPal can really simplify my life! 🙂1 week, 5 days ago SethParticipant
Thanks for the pointer to the weekly/daily issue. We will be releasing a new feature very soon that will address this (and many other prioritization challenges) in a very effective way. So, hang on and you’ll soon find it very easy to prioritize your recurring task over other time demands.1 week, 5 days ago ryqiemParticipant
Haha, I’ll keep my eyes peeled for more improvements 😉
