A feature request/suggestion that has been lifted several times (by both me and others) in different ways, is the ability to add exceptions to the time maps, or to customize them week by week.
The suggestions from you have been to add a “masking” calendar that blocks off time, but that solution doesn’t always work. As for me I have two part time jobs, with one time map each in SkedPal. If there is a week where I have to shift hours between these two jobs I just can’t get it to work in Skedpal, at least not for both jobs/time maps.
Is this somewhat on the roadmap?
Yes, the best suggestion so far was to use a Google calendar where events will be interpretted as Time Map green hours. This way, you’ll have total freedom to adjust each week.
This is on our roadmap but we have a few higher priority items that have kept us busy.
Yes, but this i very cumbersome, especially when having two time maps that have to be adjusted, adding time to one and removing time from the other. Or am I missing something about the workflow?
Sorry, I think I did not clearly explain the solution (which is yet to be implemented):
Imagine that a calendar in Google is actually your Time Map. Normally, a Time Map is only a weekly template where you can specify your preferences for ALL weeks. But, on a calendar, you can specify your preferences for each week independently.
You already have a time map called ‘My Work A Hours’. It’s green on Mondays and Tuesdays. But, you have a problem because some weeks you work on Mondays and Wednesdays. So, in the new solution, you delete this time map and instead create a calendar in your Google calendar with the same name. Then, you create a repeating appointment for every Monday and Tuesday. And, for the weeks when you work on Wednesday instead of Tuesday, you simply move the appointment in Google calendar from Tuesday to Wednesday. SkedPal will interpret the appointments on this specific calendar as green times of a time map.
Does this make sense?
Alright, so this is an upcoming feature? That absolutely sounds like a possible solution. Any ETA on this?
Our current priority is what I described in https://www.skedpal.com/forums/topic/curious-about-skedpal-v3-0/ We do not have a timeline for this feature yet but it’s high on our list.2 months, 2 weeks ago danParticipant
Lately I have been doing a planning session every Friday where I plan out my next week and part of that is that I re-set the timemaps for the coming week based on where I will be working each day. That’s working ok for me for now as a workaround. Of course the planning for 2 weeks and 3 weeks out is a little off because only the upcoming week has an accurate timemap, but at least the upcoming/current week is correct. It also forces me to plan out my week on Friday and email people about where I will be and what I’ll be doing, so it has coincidentally helped with my overall weekly planning and communication.2 months, 2 weeks ago simonwimellParticipant
Thanks Dan, that’s actually an interesting workaround for now. As you say, the long term planning might be a bit off, but it still might be the best solution while waiting for a better alternative to adjust/make exceptions from day to day.
