One of the biggest causes of missed deadlines is committing to more than you can handle. One way to avoid this problem is to consider all the commitments, meetings and work-life balance. It’s the only way to be reasonable: to avoid going insane.
Let’s visit with James to see how he manages his deadlines using SkedPal.
James outlines everything he needs to get done, and estimates a duration for each step of the project.
Then, he tries to see if he can deliver the project next week.
By just clicking on UPDATE SCHEDULE, all tasks are automatically scheduled, and he confidently confirms the due date with his client. Note that the new project is scheduled around his fixed appointments from Google calendar.
He knows that his schedule is realistic because SkedPal has accounted for everything from fixed appointments, other tasks and commitments, and his work-life balance.
He also knows it’s unlikely that he can follow the schedule all the time. There are always interruptions, and higher priority tasks that can pop in to his schedule. But, he’s still confident because he has set a buffer in SkedPal to accommodate for the unplanned activities.
He also knows that SkedPal quickly readjusts his schedule when other things come up. Like this conference call that gets scheduled today at 1:30 PM.
James uses SkedPal’s Time Maps to balance his time during the week. He wants to allocate 12 hours a week to the tasks with creative nature, an hour a day to the admin work, and the rest to the other projects.
It’s now a few weeks since he’s been relying on SkedPal’s suggested schedule. And, he feels he has really accomplished a lot more!
